Pre-owned Marco Cargnelutti "Il Toscano", originally purchased in early 2021 - now ready for a new home.

This instrument was his first violin completed in 2021, (the label says 2020, which is when it was sealed) and, as always, is an absolute masterpiece. It is made with extraordinary attention to detail, replicating Strad's Toscano 1690 pattern.

After a few years of being played, the violin has a few cosmetic blemishes where a shoulder rest has dug into the varnish, and has collected a couple other small dings and dents. Please view the pictures below to see these areas.

The violin though sounds superb, as it recently received a new bridge, setup, and new set of Rondo strings. It has tremendous depth and warmth, powerful projection, and is a breeze to play.

The violin is finished with beautiful Cocobolo wood fittings and is set up with Thomastik Rondo strings.

About the maker Marco Cargnelutti

Born in 1983 in Gemona Del Friuli (UD), a small town about 100km north-east of Venice, his interest in violin making began after visiting a workshop in his region. Marco attended the A. Stradivari International Violin Making School in Cremona under the guidance of several Masters (Angelo Sperzaga, Wanna Zambelli, Massimo Negroni, Luca Bellini and Daniele Scolari). There he learned the Cremonese traditional construction of bowed string instruments.

He graduated in 2012, and soon after took apprenticeships in two workshops in Cremona with Giorgio Scolari and Luca Bellini. At the same time he had the opportunity to learn from other Cremonese violin makers, such as Davide Sora, continuing advanced acoustic and aesthetic research in his hometown.

For his instruments he uses only carefully chosen seasoned wood, paying particular attention to its acoustical properties.

At the beginning of 2015 he opens his workshop in Gemona del Friuli, where he builds violins, violas and cellos mainly based on Stradivarius models, and paying particular attention to great Masters of the last century, such as G. Ornati and F. Garimberti.

Since 2015 he has been a  member of the Associazione Liutaria Italiana - Liutai Professionisti (A.L.I.)
