About the maker Valerio Prilipco
Valerio Prilipco is a violin maker of Russian origin born in Orel in 1952. He obtained a first diploma in musicology in the same city and a second, as a musician, at "il Conservatorio Superiore." After a short career as a musician, he dedicated himself to violin making working in Paris and received the “Medal de Chambre de Metiers du Val de Marne”.
After leaving Paris he moved to Cremona and opened his own workshop; where he was a student of Gio Batta Morassi. He has participated in various violin making competitions obtaining numerous awards in Russia, Nachold (Czech Republic), Mittenwald (Germany) and in Baveno (Italy). He obtained a second place in the viola section at the VIII International Triennial of Bowed Instruments in Cremona in 1997.
His work is inspired by the classic models, paying particular attention to varnish and acoustics. Several of his instruments are played in some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Santa Cecilia Symphony Orchestra of Rome, the Symphony Orchestra of Melbourne, the Sidney Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata Orchestra of Paris and the Darmstadl Symphony Orchestra, as well as to some Japanese orchestras. In 1999 he was invited to join the jury of the “Kaminski” competition in Poland.
